Jockey Unveils New Men’s Marketing Campaign “Supporting Greatness”

JOCKEY UNVEILS NEW MEN’S MARKETING CAMPAIGN “SUPPORTING GREATNESS”

Multi-faceted program built on “Quality Crafted” products features baseball legend Babe Ruth, astronaut Buzz Aldrin and General George Patton

KENOSHA, Wis. (August 19, 2014) – Jockey International, Inc. announces a new marketing campaign under the platform “Supporting Greatness” which features historical greats Babe Ruth, Buzz Aldrin and George Patton. The iconic underwear brand tapped its rich history of superior products and high-profile fans to showcase the legacy of great men who were supported by Jockey during their remarkable careers.

This multi-channel TV, print and digital campaign plays on the triple entendre of “Supporting Greatness”: literally, Jockey is greatness and has best-in-class products; emotionally, Jockey supports all great men in life; and functionally, Jockey’s features and benefits support great quality.

The broadcast, print and digital elements ask audiences to imagine what further greatness these men could have achieved with modern-day Jockey underwear as the campaign depicts Babe Ruth hitting a home run, Buzz Aldrin walking on the moon and General Patton leading his men to victory, and marry the historical feats with a modern-day depiction of how underneath their respective pinstripes, spacesuit, and camouflage uniforms, Jockey underwear was supporting them along the way.

“Jockey has been supporting great men since 1876 and is known as one of America’s premier heritage brands based on its rich history of quality-crafted and innovative products,” said Dustin Cohn, CMO of Jockey International, Inc. “We are uniquely positioned like no other underwear brand to tap our history and celebrate our legacy by featuring some of the great men the brand has supported with innovative, quality-crafted products.”

Jockey has been a pioneer in the underwear category from the very beginning: inventing the men’s brief in 1934; pioneering the movement of stitching the brand on the waistband and putting well-known athletes in underwear for advertisements; and continuing to be dedicated to creating the highest quality, most durable product possible.

The campaign will debut across some of the country’s biggest media properties, including ESPN, “Monday Night Football,” Esquire, GQ, Sports Illustrated, cbssports.com and more.

New York City-based Droga5 developed print, digital and TV creative; GRP Media of Chicago is the media partner; and Zeno Group of New York provides PR support for the campaign.

LEGENDARY SERVICE: For A Real Loser

One of the best things about losing weight is new wardrobe shopping. In many ways, it’s the start of a “new you.” Not long ago, we had a real loser call into our customer care center. His name was Jim F. and he lived in Texas – boy was he a loser.

When Jim’s Jockey.com order arrived at his house, he noticed his order was missing styles. Concerned, Jim called Jockey and talked with Personal Shopper Denise to report the mistake. Without question, Denise ordered his replacement merchandise. Bubbling over with excitement, Jim shared he had lost 153 POUNDS!

In celebration of his weight loss, Jim was ordering new underwear to fit his new size. Not satisfied just yet, he was on a mission to lose even more weight.

To show our excitement for Jim and let him know everyone at Jockey supports him in more ways than one, Denise sent Jim a basket of fruit with a thoughtful little note: “Congratulations on your recent loss! You’re such an inspiration! We look forward to hearing back from you.”

LEGENDARY SERVICE … Father Knows Best

For most of us, we’re first exposed to brands and products through our parents. If dad wore Jockey underpants, there’s a good chance his son’s first pair of underwear would be Jockey.

During a recent call to Jockey personal shopper Paula, William T. of Tennessee shared Jockey underwear was a tradition passed from father to son in his family. He couldn’t help but mention his dad, who recently passed away and started “the whole Jockey thing” for him.

Shortly after her call with William, Paula sent a special condolence card sharing she understands how it feels. Impressed and grateful, William couldn’t help but say, “Dad was right about Jockey.”

Is it time for new underwear?

As a guy, I can attest to this statement:  Most men won’t buy new undies until the waistband detaches from the garment. Why you ask? Let’s just say it’s an unsolved mystery. Thankfully, some of us have a person that reminds us when it’s time to freshen up our top drawer.

For our newest customer, this person was his girlfriend. Prior to Bill’s visit to a Jockey outlet store, he had no idea he needed new underwear (luckily his girlfriend did) and hadn’t thought of Jockey as a brand for him. Now? It’s the only thing he’ll cover his backside with.

Read Bill’s story below:
Jockey rewards program
“Hello -

Over the last year and eight months I have become a big fan of Jockey brand underwear. I have always felt that the Jockey brand product was a “dads” or “older man” product. I’m 34 years old. Last year, I was out shopping with friends at an outlet mall and I got dragged into a Jockey store. My girlfriend told me that I needed new underwear (I hadn’t noticed). Since the prices looked good for a 3-pack, I bought a package of Classic Boxer-Briefs with the regular fly (the Pouch type was a little weird for me). Over the next few days as I wore them; I liked them. For the last 15 years, I have worn other brands of underwear. While I was in the store that day, I signed up for the Jockey Rewards Program. A couple of weeks ago, I earned a $10 Rewards Certificate.

I live in New England and it was starting to get cold. I hate wearing thermals. When I was in the store a few months prior, I noticed the Midway Pouch Boxer-Briefs. I thought I should give them a try instead of buying thermals. Bought a package, wore them and they are great on cold days. I went back about a month later and picked up 3 more packages of the Midway Pouch Boxer-Briefs because of a great price. My underwear drawer is now 100% Jockey. All of my older non-Jockey underwear is gone.

We’d love to hear, can you relate to Bill’s story? Do you have someone reminding you (or do you have someone to remind) it’s time for new undies? Leave it in a comment below.

New Undies = Improving Economy?

Since it’s National Honesty Day, we’ll admit – we’re no economists. BUT, we do love reading news about underwear. Recently, Economy Watch wrote an article titled, “Infographic: 5 Strange Signs That The Economy Is Improving,” touting the correlation between men’s underwear and the economy. Specifically, one of the five strange signs of an improving economy is an increase in men’s underwear sales.

And to think, you thought an overflowing top drawer meant you had to wash undies less often. Below is a piece of the infographic featured in the Economy Watch article. For more on the story and infographic, click here.

New Jockey.com Feature: Style Finders

Sometimes identifying your favorite style of underwear or t-shirts can be tricky. You can probably describe the look and fit really well, “they’re blue and lacey, smooth, they fall a little bit below my belly button, and they’re a little bit cheeky.” But the minute someone asks you whether you wear Bikinis, French Cut, Hipsters or Boyshorts, you are at a loss. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.

When you shop on Jockey.com® you will now notice a new feature that can help you solve your undie woes. Our men’s and women’s “Underwear Style Finder” lists all of our Jockey® underwear styles available and offers a roll-over feature that provides a general description of each fit. You’ll be able to determine exactly what style you are looking for and shop within that category.

We also have a new “men’s t-shirt style finder” to help you more easily find what you’re looking for. Whether you want a crew neck or v-neck, an a-shirt or long sleeve, athletic, casual or big & tall tees, finding your favorite shirt will be a breeze.
