I’m going out on a limb and sharing my trials & tribulations as I embark on a weight loss challenge to lose 20 pounds…and train for a 200 mile relay race at the same time. Everyone at some point faces the challenge of losing weight, eating healthy or just trying to get a little more exercise into their daily life. I hope this motivates me and YOU to make our lives healthier and happier. Because, who doesn’t like a reason to smile every day?
Read on to learn more about who I am and what drives me to do this.
Who am I?
occupation: Web Graphic Designer for Jockey.com (woo)
workout favorites: stretchy pants that let me MOVE & breathable, light tops
current weight: 166 pounds.
goal weight: 145 pounds (same as before the good ol’ college days took their toll!)
What’s your favorite workout? I love to run. Sure, it’s hard 90% of the time, but those few days when you feel like you can run forever and you realize just how strong you really are—physically and mentally—they’re worth the battle. (On tough days, I just tell myself there is a reason everyone is not crazy enough to be a runner.)
What is your biggest food temptation? I love going out for dinner and drinks with my friends & boyfriend. I usually do that a couple times a week. All those appetizers, big meals and sugary drinks sure add up in calories (and money!). It’s hard for me to cut back on those outings because I feel like it cuts back on my social life.
Your favorite healthy snack? Apple slices & peanut butter. It’s tasty and makes me feel like a kid again.
What keeps you motivated? I like to buy a piece of new workout gear every few weeks; then I wait to wear it until a day when I really don’t want to get my butt moving. Having something bright, fun and new to work out in boosts my spirits.
Favorite Jockey® workout items? So far, it’s the active pants because they are cute & super stretchy. Truth is, I don’t have a lot of activewear yet. BUT, follow my progress as I post because I will be putting lots of our new activewear to the test and letting you know what I think about it (can’t wait!).
When do you like to work out? I usually work out in the evenings after I get off work. After being stuck inside all day, it feels so good to get out in the fresh air and move around. It also keeps me energized for the evening, so I don’t plop down on the couch and sit in front of the TV for the rest of the night. And then as soon as I lay down in bed, I’m out!
Any big fitness goals you’re working towards, beyond weight loss? I like to sign up for 5Ks to keep me “on track” and have a goal. My next one is May 22nd. Beyond that, I am training for the MC200, a relay running race. Ten teammates and I will be running from Madison, WI to Chicago, IL on FOOT for two days straight. I’m not sure what to expect—I know it will be hard and tiring and I won’t be the fastest, but I also know it will be fun and something that I will be proud of! (Yes, I DO think I have to be a little crazy to think this will be fun, too.)
Favorite motivational quote: When you’re running, there are so many things that go through your mind. One that always pops up? “Just do it.” Cliché but so true—sometimes you just have to tell yourself to suck it up. And from the movie “Finding Nemo,” I make up my own little song that I repeat over and over to myself sometimes… “Just keep running, just keep running, just keep running, running, running…” And then I do.
