- name: Kara
- age: 29
- occupation: CEO of Nostalgic Catering; Partner-Instructor for The Total Body Boot Camp
- sport: Dance, Volleyball, Soccer
- currently live: Chicago, IL
- workout favorites: Comfortable stretch pants and a good sport bra. It’s imperative to have good running shoes and comfy socks, too.
Kara began dancing at the age of 3. You could say that it was “just what the doctor ordered.” She was pigeon toed as a young child, so her doctor suggested leg braces or trying dance. Her mom chose dance…and Kara was hooked! Her passion continued into college as she danced as part of the Illinois State Dance Line and Competitive Traveling Team. After college, she tried out and made the San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush Team! She continued to dance until she was 27. Today, she still teaches dance classes when she gets the chance, but has switched her focus to a handful of other sports.
Currently, she is an instructor for The Total Body Boot Camp and other variations of aerobic classes including sculpting, abs, hip-hop, aqua aerobics and muscle max. Her students rely on her for great workouts and, in turn, they are her favorite training partners. As for competitive sports, she plays soccer, competitive 4’s volleyball, beach 2’s volleyball, and football. And, if that wasn’t enough?! She also loves to run by the lakefront when the weather is nice, ride her bike through the city and ski in the winter season. To Kara, being fit is all about balance. “It’s a part of who I am and I know how important it is for health.” Next on her list for 2010 is to complete a triathlon, become certified in yoga and run a half marathon.
Being an instructor and an avid athlete, workout clothes are a staple in her wardrobe. She looks for comfortable, form fitting styles that are durable and, of course, cute! “I love comfortable stretch pants, good sports bras and tops, and it is imperative to have good running shoes and comfortable socks.”
Outside of teaching classes and working out, she loves to cook and enjoy wine, go to the movies and check out new bands in the Chicago area. To her, time well spent is with her family and friends.
Kara’s New Year’s resolutions are “to have a really beautiful year filled with more time for my friends and family, challenge myself with new adventures, take a trip somewhere new, and embrace my youth and health more often!”
Workout advice from Kara:
Form is everything.
