Jockey International, Inc. has received the “Well Deserved” Award presented by UnitedHealthcare, Jockey’s healthcare provider, for Jockey’s dedication to employee health programs and initiatives in 2009.

UnitedHealthcare’s “Well Deserved” Award recognizes employers who demonstrate commitment to improving employee health and wellness through offering comprehensive wellness programs focused on decreasing health risk and increasing preventative education.

“Recipients of the Well Deserved Award have demonstrated the importance of employee well-being and made it a top priority through the implementation and development of a solid wellness program,” said Carol Calvin, RN, SM, CPQH and national director of UnitedHealthcare Health and Wellness. “Jockey’s efforts and investment in individual employee health and well-being are impressive. The company is very deserving of this honor.”

Jockey offers a wide-ranging wellness program including:
- free smoking cessation classes for all employees and dependents
- on-site Yoga and Pilates classes
- mammograms
- flu shots
- employee health challenges/competitions such as the Weight Loss challenge

To be eligible for UnitedHealthcare’s “Well Deserved” Award a company must demonstrate: high level executive support; presence of active wellness committees and/or champions; established wellness budget; use of diverse wellness resources such as health assessment tools; biometric screening; personal health records; direct employee communication; health education; and coaching.

UnitedHealthcare began honoring employers with this award in 2008 as an effort to encourage worksite wellness programs among companies that receive healthcare coverage from the organization.

Carrie S., of Plainsfield, Wis., was devastated when her son was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident. In time, her son recovered, but due to the nature of his injuries, it had been very tricky trying to find the right underwear for him.

Jockey International, Inc., is donating men’s and women’s underwear valued at more than $1 million to the victims of the Haiti earthquake. Jockey worked with the American Apparel and Footwear Association and its affiliation with Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) to facilitate the donation. Jockey’s licensing partner, Gerber Childrenswear, is also contributing Jockey- and Gerber-branded children’s apparel to the cause through K.I.D.S.
